Foundations of Rendering Media Art Technologies (FORMAT) is an educational exhibition series that will run August 2025 to March 2026. FORMAT will train five emerging media artists in comprehensive digital file preparation and gallery presentation skills, culminating in solo exhibitions at CFAT's Members Space, with a special emphasis on creating hybrid exhibitions that exist both physically in CFAT's space and virtually on CFAT's website. The goal of this series is to help emerging artists build the skills needed to exhibit in the media art field. This will be achieved through the process of educational workshops and meetings, culminating in each participant exhibiting a series of work they are currently producing/have produced.

Format, much like last years prep school is a presentation based educational series/residency for emerging media artists. Projects that are close to completion will be favoured by the jury as the emphasis of FORMAT is on alternative and hybrid presentation methods not creation. Saying that we do realize the nature of media art is one whereby the work is usually somewhat incomplete pre-exhibition so we do understand that some parts of your application will be plans, concepts, and schematics. Don’t hesitate to apply if the work is 50% there!
Do not apply if you have:
- Exhibited the work extensively in the current format
- Still need to make the work
-Lack the basic technical ability needed to complete your work
-Not making media art
If you are unsure feel free to reach out to Jesse@cfat.ca
