Arjun Lal (born in 1992) is a Canadian-born artist of Indian ancestry. He makes both visual and performative creative work and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts from NSCAD University. Lal has focused on creating queer themed work and using their art practice as a tool for positive social changes. “I believe that art, like other forms of media, has the power to influence the way others think.” In 2018 Lal was in Berlin for a research project, with support from Mitacs, titled “Queer Community Building Strategies” and experienced the flourishing queer culture that Berlin is known for. Lal is currently preparing for a mentorship supported by Arts Nova Scotia to learn about fetish wear materials. As an artist who deals with contemporary queer themes, I think it is important to use contemporary queer materials like leather and latex.
