Hello extended CFAT fam. My name is Kim Kelly. I am an artist/horticulturalist/sea salt harvester/member of the CFAT programming/fundraising committees based on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. In 2019 I relocated from Los Angeles/Tovaangar to Mi’kma’ki to snap out of a dry heat spell and get whipped by the briny wind.

During this high-tension US election week, I will be presenting source material @centreforarttapes for a new body of work in response to the isolation scene and from being a perimenopausal newcomer to Canada. “Iso Tank: Perimeno, Bog Bods, Banshee” is series of short videos depicting images of isolation, self-preservation and the so-called horrors of aging and dying.

The work will present visual textures and special effects portraying weightlessness in water and outer space, the grotesque, queer and queasy encounters with aging flesh, scenes of ritual and burial rites, reenactments of exhuming Iron-age preserved human remains from bogs, and the palpable emotional release of screeching banshees.

Isolation is initiation.
