WAYS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CENTRE FOR ART TAPES
The Centre for Art Tapes is a registered charity that provides a five-suite production facility alongside audio/visual field equipment to support Halifax’s media artists and filmmakers in creating their work and learning new skills! Each year we offer a collection of educational programs, professional development events and public presentations. Our aim is to always be affordable and accessible, a goal we can only achieve with the generous help of supporters like you.
Donors and sponsors play a key role in ensuring that our programs can continue to foster the rich talent that exists in Nova Scotia, and that we can share the inspiring and challenging work of media artists from around the world. Here are some examples of ways that we invite you to get involved:
Sponsor a Scholar – $11,100
Our Media Art Scholarship program is an intensive six-month educational opportunity where we commission new works by local emerging and aspiring artists through 24-hour production access, mentorship and workshop education – this program is offered at no cost to the scholar and requires no previous experience. This is our flagship program and has been running for over 29 years! $11,100 represents the full cost of putting one scholar through this program such as facility expenses, mentor fees and presentation costs.
Fund a Local Artist In Residence – $5,000
Each year CFAT hosts one to two residency programs for local artists, critical writers and curators. Our residents are emerging to established artists undertaking five months of self-directed research while creating new work. Each Artist in Residence also takes on some kind of public engagement like open studio hours, teaching workshop or giving an artist talk. $5,000 represents the cost of artist fees, supplies and production access.
Fund a Screening – $2,000
Each year CFAT presents a selection of finely-curated video or media art works in the form of a public screening. The work is selected by our Programming Committee and usually is centred around a theme. This is an opportunity for CFAT to bring the incredible works for Nova Scotia’s many talented video artists to the public, or to bring excellent and exciting video art from international artists for Halifax residents to experience and enjoy. Funding a screening represents the costs of industry standard artist fees and all production expenses.
Sponsor our Technical Grants – $1,000
Three times a year CFAT accepts applications from Halifax’s media arts and film community to our Technical Grants program. Each round CFAT gives away three awards in Production, Post-Production and a 4-month intensive. These grants provide access to our facilities for a limited time completely free. $1,000 represents the equipment and administrative expense for one round of technical grants.
Fund an Artist Talk or Workshop – $500
CFAT invites many visiting and local artists to lead workshops and master classes or give a lecture to the public about the exciting things that they’re doing. These sponsored events are always free to the public. $500 represents a professional fee to be paid to the artist for their time, as well as workshop supplies.
Become a Member of CFAT – $300
Becoming a corporate member of CFAT is a great way to get involved with our organization by invitations to members-only events, discounts for your staff on rentals and workshops and a access for your staff to our free-Thursday program.
General Fund Support
CFAT has three general funds that welcome contributions of all sizes! We are honoured by donations of any size from companies and individuals, these funds provide our donors with an opportunity to determine how they would like their donations to be used.
We have three funds:
Our Operating Fund supports the “boring” costs of running our organization such as administrative expenses, marketing and all of the other things that we need to keep the lights on. These expenses are notoriously difficult to fundraise for, and are never something that we can apply for project funding – they are however extremely important. Our Operating Fund represents our most basic organizational needs, without which none of our programs would be possible.
Our Equipment Fund supports the purchase of new specialized equipment as well as the cost of upkeep for our current equipment. Through contributing to this program you ensure that CFAT can continue to offer high quality and cutting edge industry equipment at affordable rates.
Our Programming Fund supports all of the artistic endeavours at CFAT. In addition to the programs that you read about above our Programming Fund supports the publication of artist books and catalogues, travel expenses for visiting artists and major milestone programs like our 40th anniversary.
If you would like to make a donation to CFAT you can do so through our website at cfat.ca or by visiting our office. We are happy to provide donors with charitable tax receipts and any additional information about our organization and our programs.
