Job Call: CFAT Exhibition Coordinator Internship

Temporary Contract

Remuneration: ($22/h, 30 hours a week)

Anticipated Start Date: December 9th, 2021

End date: March 25th, 2022

The Exhibition Coordinator internship is a four month contract to provide a recent graduate with exhibition planning and installation experience. Reporting directly to CFAT’s Programming and Communications Coordinator, the intern will assist in the planning and execution of CFAT’s 2022 Media Art Scholarship Exhibition. This annual event is a group exhibition featuring six media artists who have completed our education program. The coordinator will assist CFAT staff in all aspects of exhibition planning including but not limited to: Location scouting, exhibition design, install and promotions. The ideal candidate would be a recent graduate of a fine arts, art history or museum studies program. Interest in a career in curation would be considered an asset. A genuine interest in contemporary Canadian art, specifically media art, is required. The candidate should be a good problem solver with flexibility to meet a quickly changing environment. The candidate is required to work in a team environment, so strong communication skills and collaboration are essential.

The interns tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Building equipment lists and tech riders in collaboration with participating artists
  • Scouting gallery and pop up locations
  • Basic exhibition design
  • Installation of media works
  • Drafting press a press release
  • Building a PR campaign including print and social media

Please note that while any of the skills required to complete these tasks would be considered an asset, CFAT will provide the necessary training to successfully fulfill the contract.

Please note that this job is funded through the Young Canada Works Building careers internship program. To be eligible applicants must be:

  • a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
  • legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
  • will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
  • unemployed or underemployed;
  • a college or university graduate; and
  • not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program.
