Communications and Program Coordinator, Centre for Art Tapes

Terms: 28 hour/week, 4-day a week, 1-year contract position, Start date: immediately

The Centre for Art Tapes is a not for profit, artist-run, charitable organization that facilitates and supports artists at all levels working with electronic media including video, audio, and new media. We provide services to a diverse membership, and the general public, that include production facilities, ongoing exhibitions and screenings. As well we provide programs that offer, through training and in-house residencies, opportunities for individuals to critically engage with cultural and social issues. The Centre is a creative environment for individuals as well as groups to pursue independent work at the highest levels of artistic practice. The Centre is designed to provide artists with access to a broad range of production facilities and foster training and mentoring programs for members of the community. The Communications and Program Coordinator will receive three weeks of paid vacation per year, access to health benefits, access to all workshops and equipment at the Centre, opportunities to travel to conferences and professional development activities, as well as opportunities to propose curatorial projects.

Reporting to and meeting short-term and long-term goals set by the Director, the Communications and Program Coordinator will coordinate CFATs’ communications, assist with the coordination of programs and office administration. The Communications and Program Coordinator will coordinate all programs including, but not limited to the CFAT Media Scholarship Program, artist-in-residencies’, artist talks, exhibitions/screenings, the member newsletters, and coordinating the Artists’ Apartment. The Communications and Program Coordinator will draft and distribute all communications to media, public and members. S/he assists with the office administration and general office maintenance.

This position requires a highly motivated and organized individual with a keen attention to detail, strong oral and written communication skills; a person who manages multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Someone who possesses the ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, board, committees and volunteers in a shared work environment is also essential.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or completed a related post-secondary program or gained equivalent experience. The successful candidate will have exceptional communication and research skills (verbal, written and editing). The candidate will be experienced with public speaking, and other public programs; s/he will have basic office skills, but be proficient with the Mac platform, (email, database, spreadsheet, word processing software). A strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, website maintenance, and familiarity of Final Cut Pro and / or Premiere Pro would be highly regarded additional assets.
