CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:
The Unseen
An Augmented Reality Project from the Centre for Art Tapes
Application Deadline Extended: March 30th, 2020

What are the hidden things, the unseen spaces, and the lost stories? Are these things considered important and valuable and how is that metric created and by whom?

This spring, CFAT is teaming up with Art @ LARGE and the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival to commission four artists to create site specific augmented reality projects in Halifax exploring themes around seeing the unseen. The augmented reality app LARGE will be used by artists to create an augmented reality installation and will be viewable through the LARGE app (available anytime from the APP store or the Google play store).

The project will culminate with a launch party and walking tour during Halifax Independent Filmmakers festival, from June 10th – 13th, 2020. Site-specific projects near the Neptune theatre on Argyle will be given precedence, but can be located anywhere on the Halifax peninsula.

Artists will have from April 7th until May 22nd to create the works. During this time artists will have unlimited use of CFATs gear, facilities and Wifi. Limited technical assistance will be offered via Skype chats from the team at LARGE. Experience with Augmented Reality is NOT required. Artists will need to provide their own mobile device.

Artists will be paid $1000 for their projects.

Artists with limited or no experience with Augmented Reality are strongly welcome to apply!

In an effort to create a more equitable and accessible application process, CFAT is opening up applications to take the form of written proposals, in-person and over-the-phone conversations and video/audio recordings.

To apply please get in touch with Cortney at cortney@cfat.ca:

- Written project proposal (what do you want to make, what do you think it might look like?) can be 1 page or less
- For over-the-phone or in-person proposals, set up a time to meet with us
- If you have a CV, please provide one. It is okay if you don’t have a CV!
- Examples of past work (max 5 images and/or 5 min of audio or video)

If you have any questions about the program, please reach out to Cortney Cassidy, Interim Executive Director, at cortney@cfat.ca.
