Call for Submissions: Curatorial Residency 2019 – 20

The Centre for Art Tapes is accepting submissions for our 2019 – 20 Curatorial Residency. We are looking for proposals that offer an exciting and engaging media art presentation to be presented in a public setting within the Halifax Regional Municipality. The presentation could take many forms such as an exhibition, a screening or public installation. All forms of media art including electronic, new media, audio, and video will be considered. CFAT encourages proposals that critically engage with contemporary discourse of media arts and prioritize emerging and underrepresented voices.

The residency will begin October 1st, 2019 and continue on until March 31st 2020. The public presentation is to take place within the month of March, 2020. A catalogue with an essay (1000 word min.) written by the curator will accompany the curators presentation. The curator will be given a residency fee of $1700, a writers fee of $1000 and a $300 speaking fee for giving a curators talk at the final presentation. The presentation will have a budget of $2400 to cover all artist fees. Please note that CFAT will not support projects that do not pay artists a CARFAC minimum artist fee. All equipment, technical support and promotion will be provided in-kind by CFAT. Upon acceptance into the program the Programming Director will work with you to build a realistic budget.

Submissions should include:

  • Brief curatorial statement outlining your idea and any research that will be undertaken as part of the project.
  • An approximate physical discription of the proposed exhibition, including potential technical requirements, proposed venues/locations and a project schedule.
  • A CV
  • Bio’s or CVs of the potential artists involved in the exhbition (artists do not need to be confirmed at the application stage)
  • Maximum 20 digital images in jpeg format. All video clips must be under 5 miniutes and sent as a URL

The curator will meet regularily CFAT staff who will assist with promotion and coordinaton of the event. Applicants should be residing within a commutable distance to the CFAT office. CFAT cannot offer accomodation or travel support at this time.
