In celebration of CFAT’s 40tth anniversary, we’re pleased to present an artist talk with Raven Davis.
Raven Davis is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, human rights speaker, community facilitator and educator from the Anishinaabek Nation, Treaty Four in Manitoba, Canada. Davis was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario and currently works and lives between K’jipuktuk (Halifax, NS) and Toronto. A parent of three sons’, Davis blends narratives of colonization, race, gender, disability, sexuality, Two-Spirit identity and the Anishinaabemowin language and culture into a variety of contemporary art forms.
Raven is the first of four artists who will be visiting us this summer for two-week residencies. Each artist has been commissioned to create a work in response to one decade of CFAT’s history. Raven will be focusing on 1989 – 1999. Later in the summer we will be joined by Veronica Simmonds, Divya Mehra and Life of a Craphead.
CFAT would like to thank the Canada Council for the Arts and The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia for their support with this program.
