I WANT TO BURST
Gabe Moore
I WANT TO BURST is a declaration of selfhood. Unfolding in video and audio the work documents a process of reorientation toward a body that feels like home. The slippery, mutable fabric of identity is examined through self-portraiture and performance tracing a synthesis of the body, from desire to reality.
In a durational act of breath and resistance, Moore is shrouded in a cocoon of black plastic wrap. Using nails, teeth, and sinew, they bite, rip, tear, stretch, and push against the synthetic bindings, finally emerging sweaty and raw. Transition is an act of self-creation. I birth myself.
I want to burst forth
Into your arms
Into your skin
Again, and again
I fall into myself
And those I love.
